The Month of Ṣafar 1447 A.H.

Ṣafar al-Muẓaffar (Arabic: صَفَر المُظَفَّر) or Ṣafar al-Khayr (Arabic: صفر الخَیر) is the second month in the Lunar calendar.

The word "Safar" literally means empty. It was called so because people in the Age of Ignorance left their homes empty in this month, because it was after the month of Muharram, which was a Ḥarām month in which people stoped battles and expeditions, but in Safar they restarted their battles once again, leaving their houses empty.

Just like the month of Muharram, this month is also a month of grief for Twelver Shi’ite Muslims. The demise of the Prophet Muhammad, the martyrdom of Imam al-Ḥasan al-Mujtaba, and Imam al-Riḍa, as well as Imam al-Husayn (a)'s Arba'in (the fortieth day of his martyrdom) occurred in this month.

According to some sources, however, the Prophet has said about the month of Ṣafar that "Whoever gives me the good news that the month of Ṣafar has ended, I will give him the good news of going to heaven". This hadith doe not have a reliable chain of narrators.

Practices of Safar al-Muzaffar:

O' the one with strong powers, O' the one with strong position, O' the precious, O' the precious, O' the precious, all of your creatures are humbled by your greatness, please do not let leave me in need of your evil creatures, O' beneficent, O' benefactor, O' grantor, O' donor, O' there is no god but thou, glory to thee, I was indeed wrong, so we listened to him, and delivered him from distress, and thus do we deliver those who have faith. And God's peace be upon Muhammad and his pure progeny.”
